Company Enough

This is a view of the Eastern Sierras taken earlier this month.

A Bridge In Need

“What need the bridge much broader than the flood?”
William Shakespeare 1564-1616

Because of damage done in the 1989 earthquake, what the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge needs is a good seismic retrofit. It turned out that it costs less and is more efficient to build a new bridge than to retrofit the old one. It’s taking a looooong time to build but when the bridge is done it will be the world’s largest single tower self anchored suspension span. It will have only one main cable that will anchor into the east end of its own deck. The cable then will rise up to the tower and then wrap around the west end of the bridge holding itself in place.

The current Bay Bridge is on the left.

The answer to the mystery in the last post- it's a cross section of the main cable (made up of the many colored smaller cables) that will hold this bridge together.

Mystery

“The true mystery of the world is the visible, not the invisible.”
Oscar Wilde 1854-1900

I think both can be mysteries. But what the heck is this?

What Else?

“A table, a chair, a bowl of fruit and a violin; what else does a man need to be happy.”
Albert Einstein 1879-1955

I’m looking for some fruit and a violin.

I'm taking a blogger break. I'll be back in a couple of weeks.
