Adoption

“The family you come from isn't as important as the family you're going to have”
Ring Lardner 1885-1933

This is ‘Ilio the dog (‘ilio means “dog” in Hawaiian) and Lucy the lamb (in honor of Lucille Ball). Lucy was rejected by her mother but ‘Ilio doesn’t mind taking over.

Papohaku

"For whatever we lose (like a you or a me)
it's always ourselves we find in the sea.”
E. E. Cummings 1894-1962

I’m back! We had a wonderful time in Hawaii. This is a crowded day on Papohaku Beach on Molokai. Papohaku Beach is over two miles long and is practically empty. I had to wait a while for this couple to come along and balance out my photo.

Dark Cloud

“A promise is a cloud; fulfillment is rain”

I was fulfilled about a minute later.

Still Standing

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
Abraham Lincoln 1809-1865

But half a house can. This optimistic viewpoint was taken in beautiful Scotland.

Stop and Think

“All words are pegs to hang ideas on.”
Henry Ward Beecher 1813-1887

Who says bicyclists don’t stop at stop signs?

Error Prone

“To err is human - but it feels divine”
Mae West 1893-1980

But this sign is no mistake. If you had a hardware store, what would you name it?

The Long View

"In the presence of eternity, the mountains are as transient as the clouds."
Robert Green Ingersoll 1833-1899

It’s all a matter of perspective.

Hope

“Hope springs eternal in the human breast”
Alexander Pope 1688–1744

But sometimes hope gets knocked a little sideways.

Not Deep

"I must be a mermaid, Rango. I have no fear of depths and a great fear of shallow living."
Anaïs Nin 1903-1977

I found this fearful mermaid in Las Vegas where shallow living is an art form.

The Lake District

I travelled among unknown men
In lands beyond the sea;
Nor, England! did I know till then
What love I bore to thee.
William Wordsworth 1770-1850

William Wordsworth loved the natural world and especially the Lake District of England where he was born. I can see why. There is beauty around every bend in the road.

Maybe Molokai

“All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.”
Martin Buber 1878-1965

I’m off to Hawaii again, aiming for Molokai this time. I’m putting my blog on auto pilot until I return. There will be reruns of old posts that were originally shown in black and white. Now you will be able to see them in full color! A linked date of the original post will be below each picture. Joy be with you all.

Whatever is Hidden

“Time will bring to light whatever is hidden; it will cover up and conceal what is now shining in splendor.”
Horace 65 BC-8 BC

Bugged

“I feel like I'm diagonally parked in a parallel universe.”
Bumper Sticker

It helps a little if you drive a VW. But I don’t.
