The New Bridge

“What need the bridge much broader than the flood?”
William Shakespeare 1564-1616

Because of damage done in the 1989 earthquake, what the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge needed was a good seismic retrofit. It turned out that was more efficient to build a new bridge than to retrofit the old one. This is a photo taken two years ago when the new span of the Bay Bridge was being built. The bridge is closed this week-end and will reopen using the new span on Tuesday.

No Peeking

“Men's magazines often feature pictures of naked ladies. Women's magazines also often feature pictures of naked ladies. This is because the female body is a beautiful work of art, while the male body is hairy and lumpy and should not be seen by the light of day.”
Richard Roeper

Man + light of day.

...And Sorrow

“He who has not looked on sorrow will never see joy.”
Kahlil Gibran

Saturday was full of happiness but two days later was full of sorrow. On Monday, we attended the burial of our good friend, Lynn Murrin. She had plenty of sorrow in her life but she always responded with joy. And that is how I will remember her.

The picture of the roses was taken on Sunday. They were supposed to be given to the parents of the bride and groom during the wedding ceremony on Saturday. That didn’t happen because one of the guests passed out during the ceremony. The guest recovered but it took a while so we removed the rose exchange part of the ceremony to save time. It was a day full of surprises.

Aerobics

“The word 'aerobics' came about when the gym instructors got together and said: If we're going to charge $10 an hour, we can't call it ‘jumping up and down’.”
Rita Rudner

These two lovebirds are jumping for joy because today, July 20th, they will be married.
I’m jumping myself because I am the father of the bride. Smiles all around.

Don't Walk

"We all need time to sit and rest, a place to relax and take a breath."
Michael Albrechtsen

This was my first paying job as a photographer many moons ago. I was taking pictures of a parade for a local community organization when I saw this guy taking advantage of a temporary truck stop.
