Dog Collection

“Dachshunds are ideal dogs for small children, as they are already stretched and pulled to such a length that the child cannot do much harm one way or the other.”
Robert Benchley 1889-1945

These Dachshunds are stretched to over seven feet tall. They used to hang out in front of Doggie Diner restaurants but are now gathered on a trailer on Treasure Island happily waiting for an invitation to a parade.

Stay

I named my dog Stay so I can say, "Come here, Stay. Come here, Stay."
Steven Wright

When you’re in Hawaii you might as well stay put.

Moon over Molokai

“I got the sun in the mornin' and the moon at night.”
Irving Berlin 1888-1989

I’m a lucky guy. This is the house we were guests in when we were in Hawaii last year. And the kayaks we paddled around in (porpoises popped up!). The adorable dog was also part of the package.

Adoption

“The family you come from isn't as important as the family you're going to have”
Ring Lardner 1885-1933

This is ‘Ilio the dog (‘ilio means “dog” in Hawaiian) and Lucy the lamb (in honor of Lucille Ball). Lucy was rejected by her mother but ‘Ilio doesn’t mind taking over.

Four-Legged

"I would rather see the portrait of a dog that I know, than all the allegorical paintings they can show me in the world."
Samuel Johnson

This is a portrait of Sia, who lives with my son’s family. I like the way,
when the light is right, her black coat shines.

This weeks theme for Corner View is "four-legged". There's more legs in the blogs below. Thanks to Francesca for hosting.

Flagrant (Not Fragrant) Foul

“Foul deeds will rise
Though all the earth o'erwhelm them, to men's eyes.”
William Shakespeare- Hamlet

Warning! If you are dog, don’t crap in the Cotswold District. You will be arrested.

Fur and Ruffles

“The only rule is don't be boring and dress cute wherever you go.
Life is too short to blend in."
Paris Hilton 1981-

I found this fashion statement in Thailand. It was very warm and she was way overdressed. A bikini would have been enough.

The Gang of Four

“Did you ever notice when you blow in a dog's face he gets mad at you? But when you take him in a car he sticks his head out the window.”
Steve Bluestone

I was in Monterey this week admiring the scenery when this crowded car stopped for a peek. I don’t know if they were enjoying nature’s beauty or if they just needed some oxygen. Anyway, I couldn’t resist getting a shot.

Dog Time

“The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once.”
Albert Einstein 1879-1955

This is a 20 second time exposure of the California coast after sundown. The rocks are steady, the ocean is a blur and to the right you can see a double image of a dog watching the surf. The dog stared at the ocean for about ten seconds, ran to the second position and stared for a few moments more.
