Goodbye, Mom
“The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.”
Morrie Schwartz 1916-1995
Helen Prichard 1918-2013
Yesterday my mom passed away in her sleep. I often told her she was the best mom I ever had. And she was. It was a life well lived, full of love.

Not Yet Elderly
“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”

A Requirement
“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times,
always with the same person.”
Mignon McLaughlin 1913-1983
This is my daughter Shannon and some guy named John. They’re
getting married next year! They announced it on Thanksgiving
and this is the picture I took a few minutes later. I cropped off
the ring because it was blinding me. Woo hoo!

Self Portrait
“The most difficult thing for me is a portrait. You have to try
and put your camera between the skin of a person and his shirt.”
Henri Cartier-Bresson 1908-2004
It’s not so hard when it’s my skin and my shirt. The soft shadows
are cast on the side of a water tank.

Anniversary
“We all shine on, like the moon, and the stars, and the sun.”
John Lennon 1940-1980
The crescent shaped pattern in the shadow on the wall of my home was caused by the light from a solar eclipse filtering through the trees.
The woman in this picture is my blushing bride, who I married thirty seven years ago today. She’s my sun and my moon. Happy Anniversary, Dana.

Bonus, at no additional cost to you- If you drag your curser over the photo, the solar eclipse will magically appear in the window!

Turn Not Pale
“The further off from England, the nearer is to France /
Then turn not pale, beloved snail, but come and join the dance.”
from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Lewis Carroll 1832-1898
We celebrated my grandson’s third birthday last weekend. After a picnic party in the park he came home where he ran through the sprinkler. He’s laughing because of that snail crawling up his arm. It was a fun day for all.

Improvising
Life is a lot like jazz... it's best when you improvise.
George Gershwin 1898-1937
This is a portrait I did last year of bluegrass musicians Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum. They really do know how to improvise. Here they’re coplaying (I think I improvised that word) each other’s instruments.
This week’s Corner View theme is “improvising”. To see more improvised posts visit the blogs below. Thanks to Theresa for hosting.

Famous
“Frankly, I don't mind not being President. I just mind that someone else is.”
Ted Kennedy 1932-2009
Jimmy Carter was a relatively unknown politician when he ran for the US presidency in 1976. He needed national fame and he needed it fast so his organization asked me to photograph a couple of his fund raising events. This is one of the shots I took.
And the rest is history.

Like Father
“Spread the diaper in the position of the diamond with you at bat. Then fold second base down to home and set the baby on the pitcher's mound. Put first base and third together, bring up home plate and pin the three together. Of course, in case of rain, you gotta call the game and start all over again.”
Jimmy Piersall, on how to diaper a baby in the old days, 1968
The little guy on the left is my grandson at age three days. The one on the right is his father at the same age. Happy Fathers Day!

New and Improved
The young do not know enough to be prudent, and therefore they attempt the impossible - and achieve it, generation after generation.

A Better Way to Kiss
“People who throw kisses are hopelessly lazy.”
Bob Hope 1903-2003
And often indiscriminant. These two were just married so accuracy was paramount.

The Secret of Youth
"If you carry with you your childhood, you never become older."
Abraham Sutzkever 1913-2010
I think this is at least partially true. Is there anything more delightful than the sense of wonder of a child?
