Something to Think About

“It is neither good nor bad, but thinking makes it so.”
William Shakespeare 1564-1616

I’ve been thinking about our written and visual communication and how it has changed over the last couple of hundred years. From letter writing and drawing, to telegraph and photography, to telephone and television, to computers and email and blogging… are we breaking down fences and borders or are we just creating new ones? I think we’re moving forward but Shakespeare is probably right.

This week’s Corner View theme is “pondering”. To see more pondering around the world visit the blogs below. Thanks to Theresa for hosting.

  1. I do agree with Shakespeare but we can't change our nature that easily, anyway I would't mind to have this photo on my wall. There is mystery and space and an old telephone pole ,and I like it a lot.

  2. I had to think about the connection for a minute before I realized that it was fences. I'd like to say that I pondered, but I did not. ;l

  3. Shakespear has talked!

Our contemporary building and moving the fences for us. But as usual, I love your reflections!

Thank you for commenting on my amateur pictures, they are so genuinely miserable. But I can tell you that I am a better counselor than a photographer.....

    Peace & Love

  5. I do agree with Mr Shakespeare, too.
It depends on each one's own attitude how to valuate things and in a way it's our potential to reflect on our thoughts and behaviour but also on thoughts and behaviour of others.
So I prefer to perceive www-communication as a means to exchange, to get closer, to see the big picture.

  8. I've been pondering along the same lines as you lately. I'm not convinced that all the technology is a fence builder; I'm considering going back to writing letters as they are far more personal. Of course I can't imagine how limited my life would feel without blogging and so I won't give it up. Social media such as Facebook, however, I could easily do without.

Great CV on your ponderings today. Thanks. Love the photo too!!

  11. love all the texture in this one! well yes, barriers. to me it's always about trade offs. i get to talk to many more people in the world, don't i? but every new batch of software makes me long for a good old reliable no-tech pencil and piece of paper!
