Happy Steam
“Happiness consists in activity. It is running steam, not a stagnant pool.”
John Mason Good 1764-1827
On the other hand, a good nap is heavenly. This is a photo of venting steam in

The Most Wonderful
“Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale.”
Hans Christian Andersen 1805-1875
This week’s Corner View theme is “ my favorite artist”. About fifteen years ago I bought a book at a flea market called Hans Christian Andersen- The Fairy Tale Of My Life with illustrations by Niels Larsen Stevns published in 1954. I was taken by the strength and color of the childlike illustrations. I had originally intended to cut out the artwork to frame but I couldn’t bring myself to rip up the book. So now I just take out the book a couple of times a year to soak up the pictures. I haven’t actually read the whole book yet- it is an autobiography but is believed to be part fact with a good dose of fiction. Hans Christian Andersen did know how to embellish!
Anyway, here are a few of the illustrations by Niels Larsen Stevns .

Fixing the Net
“Fishing is a delusion entirely surrounded by liars in old clothes.”
Don Marquis 1878-1937
These guys really are delusionary. I found them attempting to enter reality in Monterey.

This Could Happen To You
“The most dangerous thing is illusion.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson 1803-1882
I had to stop and look real close to read this faded sign.
Then I was hit in the head by a rock and I became part of the debris.

Organic Form
“True ornament is not a matter of prettifying externals. It is organic
with the structure it adorns, whether a person, a building, or a park.”
Frank Lloyd Wright 1867-1959
Wright may be right but we used this pumpkin to prettify our interior
for last year’s October festivities.
This week’s Corner View theme is “organic form”. See how things are shaping up in the blogs below. Thanks to Theresa for hosting.

Winter
"To read a poem in January is as lovely as to go for a walk in June."
Jean-Paul Sartre 1905-1980
Going for a walk in January can be pretty lovely too. This is the Merced River in Yosemite after a winter dusting.

“Ninety percent of everything is crap.”
Theodore Sturgeon 1918-1985
This may look like a chilly winter photograph but it was taken late one August day in Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. This place is called Bird Island and no, the white stuff is not snow.
