Making A Splash

"The ocean is a mighty harmonist."
William Wordsworth 1770-1850

I was looking to do a semi-abstract shot of land and ocean here.
This fifty feet high mass of water helped me out.

  1. Wow! Fantastic photo.

And great camera too, I'll bet. :-) My camera seems to click, about 3 seconds after I wanted it to. >,-)

    Happy February!

  2. That's the problem with most digitals, hesitation. My favorite camera is an older Nikon that was handed down to me. But paying for film and development, oooofff!

Love this shot Don. "Abstract" is my favorite thing ever. You really nailed it here.

  3. Beautiful. Do you use digital or analog? If you use digital, do you take photos in monochrome in camera or do you convert afterwards? Do you use grayscale or desaturation? Just wondering. Your black and whites have nice tonality.

  4. I use a digital Canon5D. No hesitation. I shoot Raw and convert in Lightroom later. On many of my newer black and whites, like this shot, I underexpose by 1 or 2 stops using a high ISO and then lighten it up in Lightroom. This gives it a grainy look which I'm after. I'll show another one on my next post.
