“One of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart that you can't utter.”
James Earl Jones

This is personal. Last Tuesday, February 8th, I had a heart attack. The last three posts were put up earlier for an automatic timed release. The one before this, about death, would have been my last had I not been able to get to a hospital quickly to clear a totally blocked artery. I’m pretty sure I am not now dead so I consider myself a fortunate man. I have family and friends who love and care for me and my gratitude is beyond words.

Today is Valentine’s Day, a perfect time to tell the world how great my love is for the beautiful woman I married many moons ago. It surpasses infinity. Dana is simply the love of my life.

Today is also my daughters 30th birthday. She is a kindergarten teacher and the heart above is from a card that one of her students gave her. She is my favorite daughter and I love her more than a bag of chips. Happy Birthday Shannon!

  1. O dear Don, I'm so glad to hear you're still there. Take good care so we can enjoy a lot more of your wonderful posts. Get well soon xx

  2. Thanks, Dad. Although the picture isn't as nearly beautiful as those that you normally capture, it represents a love that's never ending. I'm so happy that your heart still beats and you can still hear me call you Daddy. I live you more than my luggage, plus a costco size bag of chips. Now that's big. Boom!

  3. Ö !!! Take care... and, in French : je te souhaite un prompt rétablissement.

  4. Dear Don, oh my and ah bless, life is a mystery and it certainly takes us on a wild ride at times. Take care of that heart of yours, I want to have you around for a looooong time.
And Happy birthday Shannon, have a great day and I like your dad! Plenty!

  5. Say what? What can I say? There are tears in my eyes.
So good that you have your loved ones. Take care of yourself and them.
    Life can be fragile.

Hope to see many more of your pictures here at your blog.

  6. reading this with mist in mine eyes...
    get well, get better.

  7. Dad,

I can't say how happy I am that you are still here with us. I love your pictures and humor, how you teach me to be a good husband and father, but most of all, I love having you in my life. Here's to many more years of all those things.

    Happy Heart Day.

  8. All praise is to God.

May you recover well and happy love day to you and your family.

  9. Oh wow -- glad you made it through the event. Hope you do fine in recovery and pull out many more productive and enjoyable years.
    Best regards, Don and Kitty

  10. Dear Don, i'm so glad you are well now and wish you a quick recovery surrounded by your loved ones. Happy happy Valentine's to you !

  11. Don, very glad that you are ok again and hope you recover quickly. Take care!

  12. Puh...who would expect to read something like this? Made me shudder. So glad you're still with us!! Gute Besserung und bleib uns noch lange erhalten!

  13. oh dearest don...i am glad you are all right! so scary for you and dana! suddenly my own case of the flu is no big deal.........i love coming here to see your beautiful photos and read your, sometimes dry and witty, ever clever words. this has brought back memories of my hubby's quadruple bi-pass five years ago. this truely is the month of the HEART. take care and kiss your wifey a lot. i am sending healing vibes your way, my friend.

  14. What a scare.. but so glad you're back with a heart full of love!

Take care of those arteries now!

  15. thank goodness you are here, being taken care of, and, hopefully, on the mend. sending hugs to you and dana. life is so precarious and so very precious.

  16. I am so grateful that the angels watching over you got you what you needed.

  17. So that's what happens when one takes a break from blogging for a couple of days - fellow bloggers wandering off to hospitals?

I wish you a speedy recovery, Don. My step father had a heart attack at our house when we were renovating our kitchen together. He survived, but it was touch and go there for a while.

Take care and enjoy the company of your loved ones!

  18. Beautiful and thoughtprovoking. Wishing you all the best!

  19. I haven't looked at the blog in a week or more and was so touched by your sweet and loving words, darling husband. You're the love of my life and you would have been in big trouble with me if you'd departed. So happy to share this journey with you and my sweet family. Happy birthday again to Shannon - sweet love that she is!

Say what?
