Blue

“Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue,
and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true”
From The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Lyman Frank Baum 1856-1919

I saw this blue truck on the Big Island of Hawaii.
It was leaving Waimea but headed towards Oz.

This weeks theme for Corner View is "blue". For more blue bop on over to the blogs below. Thanks to Theresa for hosting.

"I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering."

I know the feeling. I had it last fall.

Spirits

“But I think the spirit of man is a good adversary”
Tennessee Williams 1911-1983

This is a Yaksha, a spirit statue made to look threatening so he
can guard sacred sites in Thailand.

Heart

“One of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart that you can't utter.”
James Earl Jones

This is personal. Last Tuesday, February 8th, I had a heart attack. The last three posts were put up earlier for an automatic timed release. The one before this, about death, would have been my last had I not been able to get to a hospital quickly to clear a totally blocked artery. I’m pretty sure I am not now dead so I consider myself a fortunate man. I have family and friends who love and care for me and my gratitude is beyond words.

Today is Valentine’s Day, a perfect time to tell the world how great my love is for the beautiful woman I married many moons ago. It surpasses infinity. Dana is simply the love of my life.

Today is also my daughters 30th birthday. She is a kindergarten teacher and the heart above is from a card that one of her students gave her. She is my favorite daughter and I love her more than a bag of chips. Happy Birthday Shannon!

No End

“Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean.”
David Searls

On this side of the horizon is Point Lobos. There is another view over here.

The Climb Begins

“When you reach the top, that's when the climb begins.”
Michael Caine 1933-

I found this mural of aspiring folks on the side of a hotel in Walnut Creek, California.

This week’s Corner View is “favorite actor”. Michael Caine is a great actor but he is also an inspiring teacher. Listen to a bit of his advice here. There are more favorite actors in the blogs below. Thanks to Theresa for hosting and Skylar for the theme.

Sweet's The Air

“My land is bare of chattering folk; / the clouds are low along the ridges, / and sweet's the air with curly smoke / from all my burning bridges.”
Dorothy Parker 1893-1967

Bearable Beauty

“Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair, offering us for a minute the glimpse of an eternity that we should like to stretch out over the whole of time.”
Albert Camus quotes 1913-1960

I think Camus overstated things but I know what he means. This was a day in northern England that I wouldn’t mind repeating.

Evening Sky

"To me at least was never evening yet
But seemed far beautifuller than its day."
Robert Browning, The Ring and the Book

Is beautifuller a word? Was it ever? Poetic license?
Anyway, this is a piece of the most beautifullest evening sky I saw last week.

This weeks theme for Corner View is "evening sky". The sky's the limit in the blogs below. Thanks to Theresa for hosting and wander chow for the theme.
